One of the key studies into international educational rankings is the Programme for International Student Assessment, also known as PISA. This assessment model takes place every three years- deciphering rankings for the top-performing countries across the world.

In order to gain an accurate result in each assessment cycle, a focus group of 15-year-old students from each country is assessed on their skills in three subjects- mathematics, science, and reading.

Each student’s results are recorded and calculated into a mean score for each subject, helping to effectively rank each country based on the student’s performance.
