SMS follows a BYOD policy

Educational technology practices at SMS foster collaboration. Not only can teachers engage with students during lessons, but students can also communicate with each other. Through online lessons and learning games, students get to work together to solve problems. In collaborative activities, students can share their thoughts and ideas and support each other. At the same time, technology enables one-on-one interaction with teachers. Students can ask classroom-related questions and seek additional help on difficult-to-understand subject matter. At home, students can upload their homework, and teachers can access and view completed assignments using their tablets or laptops. SMS students benefit from a range of online learning platforms and software such as:

  • G Suite for Education- Emails, Google Drive, Google Forms, Google Docs
  • Google Classroom
  • Achieve 3000
  • Level Up
  • McGrawHill - Science and Math
  • Nat Geo - English
  • Pobble
  • Edmentum Platform -Exact Path & Stidy Island
  • Nahla W Naheel - Arabic

  • Edulastic - Online Assessment platform

Our educators work very hard to improve student performance, and get advantage of technology to accomplish this aim. To mitigate the challenges, a furturistic classroom learning environment is set for teachers and students to gain the competencies needed to enhance learning for students through technology. Additionally, technology in the classroom make the job easier without adding extra time to their day.

Classrooms are upgraded with Interactive Touch Panels to deliver impactful lessons using a powerful whiteboard packed with classroom tools for any subject. This furutustics learning environment helps to import teaching materials from the cloud and let students write on the board right from their seats.

At SMS the technology provides students with easy-to-access information, accelerated learning, and fun opportunities to practice what they learn. It enables students to explore new subjects and deepen their understanding of difficult concepts, particularly in STEM. Through the use of technology inside and outside the classroom, students can gain 21st-century technical skills necessary for future occupations.

There are two fully equipped computer labs and fully timetabled to maximise impact (one in the boys’ campus and one in the girls’ campus).

In Middle and High School,  students use Google Classroom and GSuite apps (such as Drive, Sheets, Slides, Docs) to collaborate, create, write, research, record and present. The success of our cross-curricular STrEaM project was in part due to the technologies and software which enabled our students to work effectively together. Students complete all assignments, presentations and tasks online - in each grade level and subjects. Internal assessments both formative and summative are all administered on Edulastic - our online assessment platform.

In KG & Elementary, Class DOJO is used as a student and parent communication platform, where we celebrate positive behaviour linked to the schools 6 guiding values.  We also use the portfolio section where parents are able to see examples of the learning achieved against the curriculum standard targeted.  Some students are sharing their learning from home which is then used as a stimulus in class for further discussion and learning opportunities.

Teachers and staff collaborate on planning documents, school projects and the sharing of resources via GSuite.

During distance learning the academic staff explored and made use of a wide variety of technologies to support learning.  In KG & Elementary padlets were used very successfully to share learning and connect children through their work submissions or simply to share smiles as a collaborative tool.  This was an example of how the technology was explored, evaluated and adapted to meet our needs. VPs and AVPs are provided with laptops. Grade Level Leaders and HoDs are provided with Ipads. Computer stations have been installed in the Early Education and Elementary STrEaM rooms to facilitate groups of students accessing technology to support their learning.

Parent meetings are held to support parents' understanding of online reading platforms, lexile levels and how they can support at home.

We had dedicated IT help and support lines for parents during the first phase of distance learning and our team regularly supported students and parents to maximise their devices and the use of online learning resources.
